In Illusions, the unforgettable follow-up to his phenomenal bestseller Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Richard Bach takes to the air to discover the ageless truths that give our souls wings: that people don't need airplanes to soar...that even the darkest clouds have meaning once we lift ourselves above them... and that messiahs can be found in the unlikeliest places--like hay fields, one-traffic-light midwestern towns, and most of all, deep within ourselves.

If you gathered all the authors of this collection in one room, you wouldn't hear the hum of perfect agreement. But you'd hear optimism in everyone's voice. "We're going to crack this problem" marks a tidal change from past decades, when it wasn't even respectable to talk about consciousness in sophisticated scientific circles. It's hard to crack a problem that almost no one believes exists. The most distinguished quantum pioneers speculated brilliantly on the nature of mind in the universe. The general reaction in the field, however, was to whisper about old men going soft and leaving "real science" far behind. Such outright dismissal still exists, so it takes intellectual courage for these authors to swim upstream as they argue for the presence of mind in the cosmos. Ironing out their differences for the moment, these essays uphold some common propositions:
• Consciousness must be scientifically explained.
• There is evidence of mind outside the human brain.
• We are probably living inside a conscious universe.
• The assumption that the brain creates mind through a system of physical processes is backed by unreliable evidence.
• Traces of mind can be found at the quantum level of Nature.
• The separation of the subjective and objective domain is artificial. Instead of seeing reality "out there," we must think in terms of a participatory universe.
Each writer has staked his own ground on these claims, some being more conservative, others declaring that mind is everywhere in the universe. It's a breathtaking range of speculation. The fact that some essays reach out to philosophy and Eastern thought is heartening to me personally. The Vedic rishis were true Einsteins of consciousness, and if mind and cosmos can be linked, these seers are urgently relevant. That's the issue that Vedanta confronts. The eyes can detect physical light. The mind is aware of its own thoughts. The soul, if it exists, can attest to God. But none of this is good enough. Our eyes are easily fooled—hence the end of classical physics, and the beginning of quantum theory, whose eyes are mathematical, since physicality itself becomes vague and shadowy, unpredictable and non-local, in the quantum domain.
I’m proud to have edited this collection of essays as the circle around reality grows tighter and tighter. This elusive chimera won't escape. One anticipates an evolutionary leap before it is captured, however. Science must expand to embrace consciousness. Theorists must plunge directly into the participatory universe. The outworn assumptions of materialism must be revised or thrown away. When will all these changes occur? No one can say. But an evolutionary leap will occur when physicists look around the cosmos and agree with a famous saying from Vedanta: "This isn't knowledge you can acquire. This is knowledge you must become."

So what’s it all about then? History, that’s what. “Errgghhh boring boring bollocks boring, I had enough of that crap when I was at school. History just went on and on and on and on and on ….. and on and on. Nothing different ever happened.”
Well that’s where you’re wrong, because I’m going to bring it alive. Not all history books, or even books about teaching history, have to be tedious. I’ve looked under every rock, in every nook and cranny. I’ve searched all over the place and dug up some really interesting little titbits. Stuff not a lot of people know.
So stay with me on this one. I’ve chosen to look at past events from the birth of the planet to the birth of Christ. That’s enough for one book, isn’t it? Well, not really, because I’ve gone off track a little bit from time to time, but I do tend to do that so don’t worry about it.
If you’ve got a teenager who’s studying the history of this period, download a copy for them now because it’s all laid out nice and clear. But let me warn you, I have in the past been accused of having an inappropriate sense of humour, so if you want a little bit of a chuckle watching me make fun out of everyone I meet down the years, then this is the book for you - and if your offspring is in their early teens then it probably isn’t the book for them.
As I say, I do tend to stray into the modern day from time to time to bring things into focus, but I promise you this book will surprise you, inform you, keep you interested and put a smile on your face from time to time.
I discuss philosophers and philosophy a lot, including ancient Greek philosophers, Chinese beliefs and philosophy from around the world, but if you think it’s all Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, there’s a lot more here to be discovered. You’ll be surprised, for instance, at the similarities between the Celts and the Native Americans. The Rosicrucians will fascinate you, as will some of the secrets held by Alexander the Great!
”Wiggins approaches his subjects with an eye for the ridiculous ….. before revealing his own thoughts on the matter with the poise and wit of a stand-up comedian delivering a killer punch-line”
“Karl has a knack of engaging the reader in the subject and then as an added bonus, making it funny. Loved reading this book”
“No history teacher ever mentioned such fun stuff like this to me in high school ….. an intellectually stimulating read,”
“Well worth five stars and recommended for anyone who wants a less serious view of life!”
It’s high time we had some history books for adults!

In this lively and illuminating discussion of his landmark research, esteemed primatologist Frans de Waal argues that human morality is not imposed from above but instead comes from within. Moral behavior does not begin and end with religion but is in fact a product of evolution.
For many years, de Waal has observed chimpanzees soothe distressed neighbors and bonobos share their food. Now he delivers fascinating fresh evidence for the seeds of ethical behavior in primate societies that further cements the case for the biological origins of human fairness. Interweaving vivid tales from the animal kingdom with thoughtful philosophical analysis, de Waal seeks a bottom-up explanation of morality that emphasizes our connection with animals. In doing so, de Waal explores for the first time the implications of his work for our understanding of modern religion. Whatever the role of religious moral imperatives, he sees it as a “Johnny-come-lately” role that emerged only as an addition to our natural instincts for cooperation and empathy.
But unlike the dogmatic neo-atheist of his book’s title, de Waal does not scorn religion per se. Instead, he draws on the long tradition of humanism exemplified by the painter Hieronymus Bosch and asks reflective readers to consider these issues from a positive perspective: What role, if any, does religion play for a well-functioning society today? And where can believers and nonbelievers alike find the inspiration to lead a good life?
Rich with cultural references and anecdotes of primate behavior, The Bonobo and the Atheist engagingly builds a unique argument grounded in evolutionary biology and moral philosophy. Ever a pioneering thinker, de Waal delivers a heartening and inclusive new perspective on human nature and our struggle to find purpose in our lives.

American society is diseased. Violent. Corrupt. Many people sleepwalk and wade through life with no purpose. Gun violence continues unabated and unaddressed by our mercenary politicians. Wealth continues to be consolidated by the few – a sociopathic symptom of Capitalism. And everything is connected: Politics, Culture, religion, etc.… Nothing will change until our collective mind state changes. My acerbic book aims to spark a movement of change. It is necessary.
Americans suffer from hunger pains of which they know not. A spiritual void pervades our society – not a religious one, but a sense of purpose eludes the bulk of our populace. Buy & Consume are momentary reprieves that leave a person feeling empty. Most people want to be good people. Maybe my book can point them in the right direction and in turn, start a long overdue revolution of thought.
Teaching Snapping Turtles is merely a mirror of truth of the insane times we live in. Gun sales increase as tragedies grace the front pages. Global Warming may not be a debate anymore, but Obama is content taking baby steps even though the problem requires a giant leap forward. Unless we immediately change as a people then there will only be more Sandy Hooks and Hurricane Sandys.
The truth shouldn’t always be pretty & polite. Truth can be vulgar. I question everything Americans hold dear: guns, capitalism, religion, sports, violent movies…and highlight the harm these things are having on Humanity.
A recent Pew Research Center report stated that a quarter of American adults had not read a book in the past year. This is unacceptable. My book is designed for Every American, specifically for the blue-collar middle class worker who never reads books. This may seem counter-intuitive, but I view it as an untapped demographic. No revolution can occur without the working class, and a book is the most effective way to ignite thought and new ideas.
Desmond Tutu once said, “Each one of us can make a contribution.” So I wrote a book that gives America a swift kick in the behind. Here is my contribution: An antidote to apathy.
While living in Las Vegas I’ve witnessed the realities of Capitalism run amok: Education in a perpetual state of being underfunded, lack of good jobs, crime, pollution, and scarcity of resources. The casino culture is spreading throughout America like some sort of venereal disease and the resultant dripping is the pittance paid to the peons lucky enough to be employed by the tight-fisted casino mogul. It is time for America to immediately wake up and change before it is too late. My only hope is that my book can serve as a catalyst.
Teaching Snapping Turtles is a big dose of penicillin for the entire country – a vital injection of reason that defies demographics. Everyone should read it.
My book is a guide to Revolution sprinkled with the amusing anecdotes of a hearty imbiber. Enjoy.
-JH

In the past, the future was opaque—the territory of fortune-tellers, gurus, and dubious local TV weathermen. But thanks to recent advances in computing and the reams of data we create through smartphone and Internet use, prediction models for individual behavior grow smarter and more sophisticated by the day. Whom you should marry, whether you’ll commit a crime or fall victim to one, if you’ll contract a specific strain of flu—even your precise location at any given moment years into the future—are becoming easily accessible facts. The naked future is upon us, and the implications are staggering.
Patrick Tucker draws on stories from health care to urban planning to online dating to reveal the shape of a future that’s ever more certain. In these pages you’ll meet scientists and inventors who can predict your behavior based on your friends’ Twitter updates. They are also hacking the New York City sewer system to predict environmental conditions, anticipating how much the weather a year from now will cost an individual farmer, figuring out the time of day you’re most likely to slip back into a bad habit, and guessing how well you’ll do on a test before you take it. You’ll learn how social networks like Facebook are using your data to turn you into an advertisement and why the winning formula for a blockbuster movie is more predictable than ever.
The rise of big data and predictive analytics means that governments and corporations are becoming much more effective at accomplishing their goals and at much less cost. Tucker knows that’s not always a good thing. But he also shows how we’ve gained tremendous benefits that we have yet to fully realize.
Thanks to the increased power of predictive science, we’ll be better able to stay healthy, invest our savings more wisely, learn faster and more efficiently, buy a house in the right neighborhood at the right time, avoid crime, thwart terrorists, and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters. What happens in a future that anticipates your every move? The surprising answer: we’ll live better as a result.

See, I saw someone get strangled once when I was 9.
In his own words, 15 year old Jake is a "huge pussy." He flinches. Always. He's too timid to make a move on Beth, the buxom girl of his dreams, and too busy getting face-slammed into lockers by bullies to do much else. He seeks the guidance of the biggest badass he knows, his cousin Nick.
Nick is a professional burglar and makes Jake his apprentice. They stalk suburban neighborhoods night after night, ransacking houses for jewelry and sweet valuables. Nick teaches Jake the finer points of breaking and entering along with his dark philosophy - that there is no right or wrong in the world, just a series of events that happen without meaning.
At first, adopting Nick's callous worldview helps Jake get over his fears and confront his tormentors, but he also unleashes an aggression in himself he never thought possible. And as he learns more about his cousin, he realizes that Nick's crimes go way beyond burglary.
In the end, Jake must face not only the monster in his cousin but also the one in his own heart.

Giacomo Leopardi was the greatest Italian poet of the nineteenth century and was recognized by readers from Nietzsche to Beckett as one of the towering literary figures in Italian history. To many, he is the finest Italian poet after Dante. (Jonathan Galassi’s translation of Leopardi’s Canti was published by FSG in 2010.)
He was also a prodigious scholar of classical literature and philosophy, and a voracious reader in numerous ancient and modern languages. For most of his writing career, he kept an immense notebook, known as the Zibaldone, or “hodge-podge,” as Harold Bloom has called it, in which Leopardi put down his original, wide-ranging, radically modern responses to his reading. His comments about religion, philosophy, language, history, anthropology, astronomy, literature, poetry, and love are unprecedented in their brilliance and suggestiveness, and the Zibaldone, which was only published at the turn of the twentieth century, has been recognized as one of the foundational books of modern culture. Its 4,500-plus pages have never been fully translated into English until now, when a team under the auspices of Michael Caesar and Franco D’Intino of the Leopardi Centre in Birmingham, England, have spent years producing a lively, accurate version. This essential book will change our understanding of nineteenth-century culture. This is an extraordinary, epochal publication.

In On Desire, William B. Irvine takes us on a wide-ranging tour of our impulses, wants, and needs, showing us where these feelings come from and how we can try to rein them in. Spicing his account with engaging observations by writers like Seneca, Tolstoy, and Freud, Irvine considers the teachings of Buddhists, Hindus, the Amish, Shakers, and Catholic saints, as well as those of ancient Greek and Roman and modern European philosophers. Irvine also looks at what modern science can tell us about desire--what happens in the brain when we desire something and how animals evolved particular desires--and he advances a new theory about how desire itself evolved. Irvine also suggests that at the same time that we gained the ability to desire, we were "programmed" to find some things more desirable than others. Irvine concludes that the best way to attain lasting happiness is not to change the world around us or our place in it, but to change ourselves. If we can convince ourselves to want what we already have, we can dramatically enhance our happiness.
Brimming with wisdom and practical advice, On Desire offers a thoughtful approach to controlling unwanted passions and attaining a more meaningful life.

A profound expansion of David McCullough, Jr.'s popular commencement speech—a call to arms against a prevailing, narrow, conception of success viewed by millions on YouTube—You Are (Not) Special is a love letter to students and parents as well as a guide to a truly fulfilling, happy life.
Children today, says David McCullough—high school English teacher, father of four, and son and namesake of the famous historian—are being encouraged to sacrifice passionate engagement with life for specious notions of success. The intense pressure to excel discourages kids from taking chances, failing, and learning empathy and self-confidence from those failures.
In You Are (Not) Special, McCullough elaborates on his now-famous speech exploring how, for what purpose, and for whose sake, we're raising our kids. With wry, affectionate humor, McCullough takes on hovering parents, ineffectual schools, professional college prep, electronic distractions, club sports, and generally the manifestations, and the applications and consequences of privilege. By acknowledging that the world is indifferent to them, McCullough takes pressure off of students to be extraordinary achievers and instead exhorts them to roll up their sleeves and do something useful with their advantages.

There is a plethora of influences that have determined the character of American art, and often, they are propelled by various external cultural influences. The question for this study has been twofold. First, whether within the large fabric of American art’s interrelated influences there has been a transmission of Zen Buddhist philosophy from the Japanese culture? Second and more specifically, did the introduction of Zen Buddhist art making, introduced by Alon Bemont, Ernest Fenollosa, and Arthur Westley Dow, influence the works of Georgia O’Keeffe?
Let me first state for the record, this book does not attempt to be a biography on Georgia O’Keeffe. For a comprehensive list of excellent biographies on O’Keeffe, simply refer to my List of Sources and Bibliography at the end. This book is an attempt to define a particular turning point in O’Keeffe’s journey as an artist and the players and publications who contributed. Long before she started painting flowers or the great landscapes of the Southwest, she explored total abstraction and monochrome palate beginning in 1912. She opened her mind to new ideas and a new way of “seeing” the world around her. It is this particular turning point, a time in her life that is little known, that is what this book is about. It is my opinion that in the early twentieth-century Zen Buddhism successfully permeated the American culture and also influenced the works of Georgia O’Keeffe in her formative years beginning in 1912. The influences on the works of Georgia O’Keeffe came from the Zen Buddhist publications and the mentorship of Arthur Westley Dow (NYC), his mentor Ernest Fenollosa (Tokyo & Boston), and Dow’s assistant Alon Bemont (Virginia). I also believe as arts educators, they are the unsung heroes, and their contributions to the synthesis of Eastern and Western culture and its impact on American modern art.
There are several Zen Buddhist inspired components from Composition, written by Arthur Wesley Dow that inspired O’Keeffe’s works. The Japanese Zen Buddhist inspired concepts covered in this study is the black and white emphasis of No-tan found in Japanese Zen art. This Zen concept is most readily found in her charcoal drawings series entitled Specials (c 1914-15), her Blue Series (1916), and a floral composition (1927).
I believe that through the instruction of Alon Bemont in Virginia and her later formal instruction with Arthur Westley Dow at Columbia Teachers College in New York, Georgia O’Keeffe returned to painting after a four year hiatus with a new passion and a new way of “seeing” the world. This study aims at defining these attributes and exploring their impact on the art of Georgia O’Keeffe.
Quote from Zen and Oriental Art:
“In Zen, the meanings often lie beyond language but can be revealed in visual form…To approach this reality with a Western background or common sense is not possible-in order to understand Zen one must experience it first-hand.”

“Every practice is a mode of thought, already in the act. To dance: a thinking in movement. To paint: a thinking through color. To perceive in the everyday: a thinking of the world’s varied ways of affording itself.” —from Thought in the Act
Combining philosophy and aesthetics, Thought in the Act is a unique exploration of creative practice as a form of thinking. Challenging the common opposition between the conceptual and the aesthetic, Erin Manning and Brian Massumi “think through” a wide range of creative practices in the process of their making, revealing how thinking and artfulness are intimately, creatively, and inseparably intertwined. They rediscover this intertwining at the heart of everyday perception and investigate its potential for new forms of activism at the crossroads of politics and art.
Emerging from active collaborations, the book analyzes the experiential work of the architects and conceptual artists Arakawa and Gins, the improvisational choreographic techniques of William Forsythe, the recent painting practice of Bracha Ettinger, as well as autistic writers’ self-descriptions of their perceptual world and the experimental event making of the SenseLab collective. Drawing from the idiosyncratic vocabularies of each creative practice, and building on the vocabulary of process philosophy, the book reactivates rather than merely describes the artistic processes it examines. The result is a thinking-with and a writing-in-collaboration-with these processes and a demonstration of how philosophy co-composes with the act in the making. Thought in the Act enacts a collaborative mode of thinking in the act at the intersection of art, philosophy, and politics.

For Those who Write, Market, and Sell eBooks
This book is unique because you will learn how to write efficiently, and how to write better by studying the “Efficiency Ratio” in the workplace, and applying it to your writing. You will learn how to “Be your own Boss,” in the true sense of the word – assigning tasks to yourself and completing them efficiently, and with quality.
Steve Preston, author of “Goals: Achieve Your Ambitions, Breakthrough Your Fears and Live the Life of Your Dream” and I are in a Master Mind Alliance of the sort described in Napoleon Hill’s, “Positive Mental Attitude: The Science of Success.” Each day, I emailed new chapters to Scott and these are his responses:
A fascinating insight into efficiency and productivity. I particularly like how you discuss management and labor with regard to writers and working with ourselves. This will be very significant content for any writer.
I think this is a wonderful method of organizing brainstorming ideas. I will not have an opportunity to try it today but will definitely try it out in the coming days.
Major accomplishment writing yesterday. It's great to see how you keep refining the process.
Again, great material. I can see myself taking a completely new approach over the coming months from the strategies you are outlining. You are producing extraordinary work, well done!
This is fantastic material! I can see you using this material way beyond books in the future. There is potential here to expand this information into bigger training programs for companies and businesses. You could expand it into video and audio as well as the written word. It may not be where you are intending to go with it, but the potential is certainly there. Keep up the good work.
That's a great story about Carl's Jr. I'm familiar with that chain even though we don't have them in Europe (I have toured the US many times). This whole efficiency ratio idea has really grabbed me.
The contrast from what you experienced there as opposed to where you volunteer could not be more profound. This material again as you say would be a great book subject and I love the idea of working in the field and writing while you are there doing your research. You really have your creativity and imagination working wonderfully.
If you get to the point where you are turning out a 50,000-page book in 180 hours, you will have an amazing output, and as far I can see will reach your targets and goals even quicker than you had earlier envisaged. I look forward to the open source book and the inspiration contained in it.
You are certainly inspiring me with your aspirations and research, great work!

The book begins with an in-depth exploration of the meaning of courage and how it is expressed in the everyday life of the individual. Unlike books that focus on heroic acts of courage in exceptional circumstances, the focus here is on developing the inner courage that enables us to lead authentic and fulfilling lives on a day-to-day basis. This is the courage to change when change is needed, the courage to stand up for our own truth, even against the opinions of others, and the courage to embrace the unknown in spite of our fears-in our relationships, in our careers, or in the ongoing journey of understanding who we are and why we are here.
Courage also features a number of meditation techniques specifically designed by Osho to help people deal with their fears.

I feel these wise statements from The Art of War can readily be applied to the work of self-cultivation as they have much to do with developing discipline and self-knowledge; developing an awareness of the people and the world around us; as well as the importance of context and timing in our lives.
And the "enemy" it speaks of might be applied to an actual enemy or opponent, negative influences and environments, our own self-sabotaging ways, something as debilitating as poverty or oppression, or something as "mundane" as procrastination.
Perhaps, like me, you will be motivated to meditate on, work towards (or continue to) and achieve a more rewarding life that includes: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Do you want to find inner peace and empowerment through self-knowledge? Do you long to get closer to The Creator through His Scriptural Word?

A “take life by the throat” philosophy has always served Rob well. It keeps him focused, forcing emotions and potential relationships to take a back seat to his aspirations. But once every obstacle has been conquered and he’s achieved his goal—executive chef at a famous Chicago restaurant—he must acknowledge that he has reached his mid-thirties very much alone.
Blake has just jettisoned his dream job—head of a fast-growing craft microbrewery—to escape from the woman who shattered his soul. Arriving at a Chicago beer festival prepared to drown his sorrows before moving on he is miserable and numb.
Fate throws the men together altering their respective worlds forever.
Once Rob reveals the personal demon that has haunted him for years, Blake allows himself to fully trust again, and admits he wants a child. But a mutual attraction evolves out of a business arrangement with the woman hired as their surrogate, which has the potential to destroy an already delicate status quo.
But time is of the essence, and becomes the one luxury they don't have.
An honest depiction of a modern relationship mosaic reminding us to treasure every single moment we are allowed to love and be loved.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah at a restaurant in Camden Town, London, early this year. Sarah had decided to share her coming out story with the world.
Although Sarah was lucky to have had supportive friends and parents, she also realizes that other people are not so lucky. She has shared her story to show others that coming out as gay was the happiest and joyful day of her life.
In her own words she shares her feelings about the insecurities and struggle with her sexuality, she talks about her role models and the way they have inspired her.
But most of all she shares her coming out story, the reactions of her friends and family and her new outlook on life.
Sarah told me that if only one person reads this book and finds comfort from her words, and is able to accept and embrace being gay, then I will have made a difference, as other people have made a difference in my life.
Our commitment
Sarah and I have decided to donate 50% of the profits from this book to stonewall.org.uk. They are a lesbian, gay and bisexual charity that does amazing work with the gay community.

Razonamiento lógico: Manual de buenas prácticas (Spanish Edition)
albator50: "Razonamiento lógico: Manual de buenas prácticas #RT #ASMSG EUR 0,89 http://t.co/Bpy4edOxgf"Buy on Amazon

Volume 1 is about being physically and emotionally safe. Volume 2 is for self-awareness skills. Volume 3 addresses having healthy relationships and being of service to others. Volume 4 focuses on self-care for those who care about kids.
These books are the only ones of their kind. They were put together with kids for kids. When I asked 160 of my students how to be a better parent and teacher, their answers became the foundation for these materials. They identified what they wanted to learn. They taught me by their example how to simplify important information, using their words.
These books are not just for breaking cycles of addiction and abuse. When used as intended, they are also tools for prevention. Workbooks are included to provide suggested activities to use as a curriculum. These books teach leadership skills with integrity. They prevent suicides and kids bullying other kids. They help build a bridge to give kids and adults a safe place to meet in conversations that lead to problem solving with calmness and clarity. These books are the solutions for healing families and communities. To help our kids, we have to model the behaviors that inspire them. We can begin with learning how to listen to their heartfelt desires. We can begin with taking the time to learn more about the world they live in, from their point of view. These books are a great place to begin.

The Mangle in Practice opens with a fresh introduction to the mangle by Pickering. Several contributors then present empirical studies that demonstrate the mangle’s applicability to topics as diverse as pig farming, Chinese medicine, economic theory, and domestic-violence policing. Other contributors offer examples of the mangle in action: real-world practices that implement a self-consciously “mangle-ish” stance in environmental management and software development. Further essays discuss the mangle as philosophy and social theory. As Pickering argues in the preface, the mangle points to a shift in interpretive sensibilities that makes visible a world of de-centered becoming. This volume demonstrates the viability, coherence, and promise of such a shift, not only in science and technology studies, but in the social sciences and humanities more generally.

The Terraist Letters is the funniest and most provocative political satire of 2012 on the most serious subject matter; that of nuclear experimentation. The Terraist Letters might be considered blasphemous by some, delusional by others, a hilarious metaphor by those with a finer sensibility of rhetorical humor, call to action among those who are against genetic mutation and might make those with poor spelling feel threatened.
Sean Enstitue starts off by explaining the difference between the street angle and the straight Anglo and ends up exploring inner consciousness, politics and the universe at large. Allow Sean to introduce you to his world, where graffiti is the only appreciable art, where every holiday is a plot to subdue questioning the global military industrial complex, where Santa Claus is the lead indoctrinator of lies for war, and where marijuana is the only thing that could possibly save the planet.
Cop the book for a laugh and more importantly provocation of thought. Sean explains the validity of the philosophy and sentiment of F@#! the police and how he derived it from the likes of Gandhi, OG George Washington and Jesus -whatever his real name was, all in the first few pages. Sean has an intense hatred of copouts in the global military industrial complex promoting nuclear experimentation, all holidays, especially Chrsitmas and New Years, but only becasue he despises Santa Claus more than anything.
You will laugh, you will shiver in fear, you might cry, you might learn a thing or two about nuclear experimentation and you will never, ever go near cat shit again.

The 65th-anniversary edition of an educational classic proves its relevance in examining today's educational quandaries
McGraw-Hill first published The Saber- Tooth Curriculum in 1939, and it has remained a classic bestseller to this date. The book is just as relevant and applicable to the key questions in education today as it was when it was first published.
With tongue firmly in cheek, Peddiwell takes on the contradictions and confusion generated by conflicting philosophies of education, outlining the patterns and progression of education itself, from its origins at the dawn of time to its culmination in a ritualistic, deeply entrenched social institution with rigidly prescribed norms and procedures.
This fascinating exploration is developed within a fanciful framework of fictional lectures, given by Professor J. Abner Peddiwell, doyen in the History of Education at Petaluma State College. In a humorous fable, Peddiwell illustrates the progress of education and give valuable insights into how it could continue to develop in the decades to come.

The Periodic Table is a crowning scientific achievement, but it's also a treasure trove of adventure, betrayal, and obsession. These fascinating tales follow every element on the table as they play out their parts in human history, and in the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them. THE DISAPPEARING SPOON masterfully fuses science with the classic lore of invention, investigation, and discovery--from the Big Bang through the end of time. *Though solid at room temperature, gallium is a moldable metal that melts at 84 degrees Fahrenheit. A classic science prank is to mold gallium spoons, serve them with tea, and watch guests recoil as their utensils disappear.

Li scrive quasi tutti a Gaeta, altri mentre viaggia in treno.

Why can’t our political leaders work together as threats loom and problems mount? Why do people so readily assume the worst about the motives of their fellow citizens? In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding.
His starting point is moral intuition—the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right. He blends his own research findings with those of anthropologists, historians, and other psychologists to draw a map of the moral domain, and he explains why conservatives can navigate that map more skillfully than can liberals. He then examines the origins of morality, overturning the view that evolution made us fundamentally selfish creatures. But rather than arguing that we are innately altruistic, he makes a more subtle claim—that we are fundamentally groupish. It is our groupishness, he explains, that leads to our greatest joys, our religious divisions, and our political affiliations. In a stunning final chapter on ideology and civility, Haidt shows what each side is right about, and why we need the insights of liberals, conservatives, and libertarians to flourish as a nation.

He quit his job and dropped out of the white-collar world with all its trappings and amenities. Unemployed, he had to give up his residence. With a sleeping bag and a sackful of clothes he headed to Northwest London's Gladstone Park, settling in among the homeless, transients, dog walkers and the occasional irritated park worker. His only solace, an A4 notepad and a pen.
Like the author, the main character Colossus Sosloss also quits his job, becomes homeless and sleeps in the park. Colossus observes the other homeless who reside at the park. Many of them with treatable or controllable mental illness but, in the post-Margaret Thatcher England, such individuals are human refuse. Dumped into society to fend for themselves and spiral downward amongst the neatly-trimmed hedges and glistening, manicured lawn of the sprawling public space.
The character's travails are reminiscent of a Lewis Carroll-type adventure with subtle Dickensian undertones. Which include a lost parrot and an unfortunate man named Squirrel. We follow Colossus on his journey to the edge of sanity, with humorous interjections and clever idioms. A hero's quest, that inevitably ends with subterfuge, realization and reflection.
Today, no longer homeless, Craig Stone is probably one of the most promising young writers to grace the indie and self-publishing world. Though at 31, Stone is a surprisingly mature author who seems to transcend the generations. His literary work is suitable for the very young and for those who have lived an interesting life
The Squirrel That Dreamt Of Madness is an imaginative tale that can only come from a brilliant, albeit delightfully demented, mind. Stone mixes humour with the cold, stark reality of life. Everything and everyone, is a metaphor for something either sinister or truthful. Gifted students may soon find this book on their required reading list for their advanced High School contemporary literature class.
The author does not have a long laundry list of writers who inspired him, though he definitely channels some Steinbeckian qualities (the novel was written during the height of the Great Recession) and J.D. Salinger's, The Catcher in the Rye.
Like Hemingway who retreated to the wild and lawless pre-Castro Cuba to pen his magnum opus The Old Man and the Sea, Stone chose to immerse himself in a colder and wetter climate to experience what his character had to endure. The old adage, you write what you know, still rings resonantly true. Stone certainly writes what he knows, and writes it exceptionally well."

We are stuck, stymied, frustrated. But it needn’t be this way. There is a formula for success that’s been followed by the icons of history—from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs—a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.
These men and women were not exceptionally brilliant, lucky, or gifted. Their success came from timeless philosophical principles laid down by a Roman emperor who struggled to articulate a method for excellence in any and all situations.
This book reveals that formula for the first time—and shows us how we can turn our own adversity into advantage.

What Green discovered through personal experience, study and via his meditation students is that enlightenment is actually a ridiculously easy re-connection to what is already enlightened within us. The process is similar perhaps to re-connecting an electricity supply following a minor fault with a fuse. It is widely accepted awakening is inexplicably random and ‘IT’ generally occurs only after many years of devotion to this or that spiritual path but the truth of enlightenment according to Green could actually lie in the blatantly obvious pearls of information every seeker tosses aside because it appears too simple or even paradoxical. If this is true then your exhausting seeking has reached journey’s end!
“The life of a spiritual master is often a fruitless and forlorn one – filled with eager-beaver seekers looking for the deeper meaning in everything, looking for glimpses of profound insight where there isn’t any, looking for spiritual truths where none exist. Alas they just cannot see that it’s easier to become enlightened than it is to eat a bowl of cornflakes!” Chris Green.
Publisher’s Note:
This new and exciting book caused a stir in our publishing office when our manuscript assessor read it and ‘woke up’. Although there is no guarantee Chris also offers insightful instructions on how to cease psychological suffering that is not interdependent upon the reader awakening. A win/win scenario if ever there was one!
